Description

Original Year of Release:  1981
Members:  Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Ace Frehley, Eric Carr

Track Listing:

Fanfare
Just A Boy
Odyssey
Only You
Under The Rose
Dark Light
A World Without Heroes
The Oath
Mr. Blackwell
Escape From The Island
I

Fun Facts:

-This was the first album to feature Eric Carr on drums.  KISS also went to great lengths to hide his true identity (including his own persona, having his stage name, and listing him as three years younger in certain media).

-KISS (or at the very least, Paul Stanley) isn't very proud of this album - more or less because of what they wore back then (then again, a lot of 80's stuff was kinda weird looking compared to today).

-The only song that is featured in compilations is A World Without Heroes.  Yes, it's a somber song, but it's still great.  I is a great song too (at least in my opinion).

whoa, this is misunderstood and perhaps the most hated album of all time. very controversial with the fans and although critics like it a bit, it did not have sex and booze themes of the 70's work. this feels like the legend of zelda meets genesis' the lamb lies down on broadway, while they are a zillion miles from creating that one, this is like the kiss version of the wall (1979) this 1981 epic was so hated on in fact it is the worst selling of their discography and it did not go gold.

so what if it is hated? I LOVE IT! more than other kiss album i know.

this is a concept album about a boy joining the council of the elder and they order him to stop evil and save the universe and save all of humankind. gene simmons, despite his cheap ways, sings great on under the rose and the male vocal chorus is TITANIC AND DARK!! paul stanley played solos, yes he did as ace hated the concept so much, he did only one song, dark light and he shreds on this like a maniac. damn!

some songs follow the plot, others do not. i already made another concept album that was late in the game: kilroy was here by styx (1983). i choose under the rose as it was written by gene and eric carr (r.i.p.) plus a world without heroes.

i love the elder and by tonight i will write it despite my lukewarm response to today's kiss and it felt a tribute band. although they bounce back on the judas priest-ish creatures of the night, i stopped after this as they took the makeup off. anyway, this is a great review on an underrated album.
